Dress Code

Ultimate Holding Company have been invited to make new work that will be exhibited at various locations on Whitechapel High Street. Dress Code is inspired by the development of pattern in Whitechapel’s textile heritage.

The new commission interpret such themes as informed by and drawing on a multitude of influences from French Huguenot weavers and Jewish rag traders, elaborate Indian Chintz designs through to Bangladeshi sari makers. Part performance, part exhibition, the interventions, in four parts, are:

 

Dress Code: Inflate
An inflatable ‘dressed’ structure.
23 June 2012, 10-5pm, Altab Ali Park, opposite Aldgate East underground.

Dress Code: Bike
A mobile bike sculpture festooned with carrier bags customised with textiles.
23 June 2012, 10-5pm, various locations between Altab Ali Park and Mile End Waste.

Dress Code: The Waste
An 8-hour durational performance by Robyn Woolston.

Dress Code: Publication
An exhibition that reflects the development of pattern in Whitechapel’s textile heritage.
